# QR codes for real estate agencies

## Size the board code properly

A viewer stands on the pavement, 2–3 m from the board. The ten-to-one rule gives
**20–30 cm** of code. Most estate agency boards carry codes at 5–8 cm, which is why they go
unscanned.

If the board cannot spare that area, print a short memorable URL instead — a code too small
to scan is worse than no code, because it looks like you tried.

## Point at the listing, not the site

`agency.com/12-oak-street` — that property, that page, with the photos and the floorplan.
A code pointing at the agency homepage forces the viewer to search, and most will not.

Keep the URL alive after the sale with a redirect to a "sold in this street" page. Boards
stay up, and photos of boards circulate for years.

The agency window is scanned from 1–2 m through glass. Mount the card **inside the glass
facing out** rather than stuck to the outside — the reflection then sits in a different focal

A board code that works at 9 pm on a Sunday captures viewers who would otherwise wait until
Monday and change their mind. That is the actual business case, and it depends entirely on
the code being big enough to scan from the pavement.
